The National Association for Multihousing Ministries & Congregations

WHEREAS the work of Multihousing Ministries and Multihousing Congregations continues to grow at an unprecedented rate:

WHEREAS the needs of these Multihousing populations continue to increase with the ever expanding work of Multihousing Ministries & Congregations:

WHEREAS the need for resources, volunteers, training, and staffing continue to increase as this body of ministry grows:

WHEREAS God continues to open doors of opportunity for His work on Multihousing properties, touching and changing the lives of multitudes:

BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED: We the members of the 2001 National Training Conference at Lake Yale Florida on this day of Friday April 6, 2001 do hereby set aside consecrate and adopt the first Monday of each month as a NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER AND FASTING for Multihousing works, workers, resources, and populations.

CONSTITUTION AND BY - LAWS


SOUTHERN BAPTIST MULTIHOUSING ASSOCIATION
THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR MULTIHOUSING MINISTIRES AND CONGREGATIONS PREAMBLE


For the more certain preservation of the principles of our faith, and to the end that this body may be governed in an orderly manner, and for the purpose of encouraging and motivating churches of the Southern Baptist Convention and like Christian Evangelical entities to start congregations and meet human needs in multihousing communities across our nation, we do declare, establish and adopt this constitution

Article I - Name
The organization shall be known as Southern Baptist Multihousing Association The National Association for Multihousing Ministries and Congregations (NAMMC).

Article II - Purpose
The purposes of the Association are:

SECTION 1. To provide support and fellowship for members engaged in starting congregations and meeting human needs for those living in Multihousing communities across the nation.

SECTION 2. To provide a network for the exchange of information related to the started of new congregations and ministries in Multihousing communities.

SECTION 3. To provide opportunities for professional growth among those involved in Multihousing ministries.

SECTION 4. To encourage and promote the extension of the Kingdom through the starting of congregations and meeting human needs for those living in Multihousing communities.

SECTION 5. To provide means of recognition to individuals for their outstanding contributions to those living in Multihousing communities

Article III - Articles of Faith
We affirm our common faith in adopting the Baptist Faith and Message, a statement of Articles of Faith adopted by messengers to the Southern Baptist convention on May 9, 1963.

BY - LAWS


Article I - Membership


SECTION 1. MEMBERS - The members of the Association shall include the following that have paid the annual dues set by the Association in a general session.

(1) Pastors/Staff of Southern Baptist Convention churches and missions engaged in multihousing ministries or who have a desire to do so.

(2) Laypersons and students in Southern Baptist Convention churches and missions engaged in multihousing ministries or who have a desire to do so.

(3) Employees of Southern Baptist Convention agencies and institutions, state conventions, and associations.

(4) Associate Membership: Like Evangelicals of other denominations may join as Associate Members, but cannot hold office or have voting privileges (their dues structure will be the same as regular members of the Association).

SECTION 2. CHARTER MEMBERS - Charter members of the Association are those members on record at the close of the annual meeting on June 4th, 1991, at which time the original Constitution and By-laws were adopted.

SECTION 3. STATE AFFILATE CHAPTERS - Interested persons in the Baptist State Conventions who desire to organize a State Multihousing Association (Affiliated with the Southern Baptist Multihousing Association) may do so by contacting the president of the Association for details.

Article II - Officers


SECTION 1. OFFICERS - The officers of the Association shall include a President, Past President, Vice-president, Treasurer, Editor, and other officers deemed necessary by the Association.

SECTION 2. ELECTIONS

(1) All officers shall be elected at the annual meeting of the Association. The Nominating Committee shall recommend to the Association those who will serve as officers if elected.

(2) In case of a vacancy between annual meetings, the remaining officers shall appoint a person to fulfill the unexpired term. This person shall be qualified to serve a full term if so elected.

(3) The President may call a special business session between annual meetings where all dues-current members are mailed a ballot and given 30 days to return them to the president via postal or Internet mail.


SECTION 3. TERM OF OFFICE

(1) The officers of the Association shall be elected to serve one-year terms.

(2) The officers shall not serve more than two consecutive one-year terms in the same office.

(3) Terms of other elected officers will be set by the Association.


SECTION 4. ELIGIBILITY - No more than one officer shall be elected from any one Southern Baptist Convention agency. No more than two officers shall be elected from any one Southern Baptist State Convention.


Article III - Duties of the Officers

SECTION I. DUTIES OF CURRENT OFFICERS - the duties of the current officers shall be as follows:

(1) President: The President shall preside at all regular and called meetings of the Association, Serve as a program chairperson, serve as an ex-officio member of all committees.

(2) Past-President: The Past-President shall serve a one-year term and shall assist and consult for the president as necessary.

(3) Vice-President: The Vice-President shall preside at the meetings of the Association in the absence of the President, assist the President with the annual program of the association and serve as the Prayer Chairperson of the Association.

(4) Vice-President of Education & Training: Shall plan and recruit speakers for the Annual meeting in collaboration with the president. Develop and be a resource for Multihousing training opportunities.

(5) Secretary: The Secretary shall keep the minutes of the annual meeting and the administrative committee meetings and bring a report to the annual meeting. Records of the Association shall be deposited with the Secretary.

(6) Vice-President of Communications: Shall be responsible for the development and maintenance of the Multihousing web site. The Vice-President of Communications shall be responsible for sending out e-mail newsletters and other e-mail announcements for the Association and maintaining and updating the Association e-mail list.

(7) Vice-President of Membership: Shall be responsible for keeping and processing all membership forms and maintaining an up to date electronic membership list. The Vice-President of membership shall promote and recruit membership for the association and send out dues renewal notices

(8) Treasurer: The Treasurer shall keep the financial records of the Association and bring a Treasurer’s Report to the Annual Meeting.

(9) Newsletter Editor: The Editor shall be responsible for editing, printing, and distributing all publications of the Association. The Editor will also serve as a contributing editor to The Hinge Newsletter Multihousing in the 21st Century.

SECTION 2. OTHER OFFICERS: The duties of all other officers elected by the Association will be approved by the Association in general session.


Article IV - Denominational Relationships


The Home Mission Board’s staff person who has the multihousing program assignment will serve as an ex-officio officer of the Association. He/She will have input in all meetings, goals, and functions of the Association, and shall serve as an ex-officio officer on the Administrative and Nominating Committees.

The NAMMC will maintain a collaborative relationship with The North American Mission Board and endeavor to share information and resources to the extent of mutual agreement and interest.


Article V - Committees


SECTION 1. Standing Committees shall be formed and elected as deemed necessary by the Association acting in general session. Their duties will be approved by the Association.

SECTION 2. THE ADMINISTRATIVE COMMITTEE - The Administrative Committee shall be made up of the officers of the Association and the denominational representative, and will carry out the actions of the Association between annual sessions.

SECTION 3. THE NOMINIATING COMMITTEE - The President of the Association shall appoint a Nominating Committee of three persons one of whom will be the denominational representative.


Article VI - Finances


SECTION 1. An annual budget and a financial report shall be prepared by the Administrative Committee and presented for consideration at the annual meeting of the Association.

SECTION 2. Membership dues of the Association shall be $25 per calendar year per person. Where state chapters exist, $5 of each person’s dues in that state shall be sent to the state chapter at their request.

SECTION 3. Due date of Annual Membership Dues shall be as follows: (1) All Annual Membership dues are due and payable on the expiration date of their annual membership

Article VII - Publications


SECTION 1. NEWSLETTER - The “Hinge” “Multihousing Ministry in the 21st Century” shall be the official newsletter publication of The Southern Baptist Multihousing Association National Association for Multihousing Ministries and Congregations. The newsletter shall be published at least once a quarter providing resources and funding are available.


Article VIII - Constitution and By-law Changes


The Constitution and By-laws may be amended at the annual meeting of the Association by a simple majority of the members present and voting.

AMENDMENTS: SBMA Constitution and by-laws adopted June 4th, 1991.
